A Senate committee is passing legislation to make AM Radio available for free in the Every Vehicle Act.
In a bipartisan vote, the bill received overwhelming support and now moves from the Commerce committee on to the full Senate. The legislation would turn to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to make a rule that requires vehicle manufacturers to keep AM broadcast radio without a surcharge. The president of the National Association of Broadcasters says the legislation would allow AM radio to continue as the backbone of the nation’s Emergency Alert System.
