Madison is getting a top-tier women’s soccer team.
The ownership team of Forward Madison FC yesterday said it has landed the rights to a new team in the USL Super League. The league is hoping to launch next year, and Madison must make improvements to Breese Stevens Field in order to get the team.
Forward Madison’s Conor Caloia and Vern Stenman said in a statement that it’s always been their goal to bring a professional women’s soccer team to Madison. The USL Super League is expected to include teams from Phoenix, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, Tampa Bay, Washington, D.C., Lexington, Kentucky, Spokane, Washington, and Tucson, Arizona. There’s also talk of teams in Chattanooga, Tennessee; Jacksonville, Florida; Oakland, California and Indianapolis.
