A crash heading into the weekend marks the first traffic fatality in Barron County this year.
On Friday, April 28, 2023, at 10:05 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a one vehicle crash on County Road D/7th Ave west of County Road K/2nd St, south of Turtle Lake.
An investigation of the crash shows the vehicle was traveling west on County Road D/7th Ave at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the sign. The vehicle continued west with the driver subsequently losing control and leaving the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. The driver, Brenden Brown, 21 of Rice Lake was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, Gretchen Madsen, 18 of Clayton was transported to Barron Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department but speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
