The tracks where a BNSF freight train derailed on Thursday are set to reopen today.
The railway said on Friday that main track two would open at 6 a.m. and main track one will reopen at 8 p.m. At least two cars went into the Mississippi River when the train derailed early Thursday afternoon near the village of DeSoto, about 30 miles south of LaCrosse. The cars were carrying a variety of freight, including lithium-ion batteries, paint, and oxygen containers. Crawford County Emergency Management Director Brandon Larson said paint being hauled in the two cars that went into the river was not hazardous. Larson also said no lithium-ion batteries wound up in the river.
