Wisconsin lawmakers are considering a plan that would speed-up sexual assault kit testing at the state crime lab.
The legislation, which is up for a hearing today, would require the lab to begin work on sexual assault kits within five days of getting the kit, and finish the testing within 60 days. The idea comes after Wisconsin’s massive backlog of sexual assault kits a few years ago. Some of those kits sat on shelves for years. The backlog testing led to several arrests and solved many cold cases.
