Wisconsin’s longest-serving secretary of state is calling it a career.
Secretary of State Doug La Follette announced his retirement Friday, effective immediately. The 82-year-old La Follette was just three months into his tenth consecutive term. He was first elected in 1974, then again in 1982 and had served since then. Governor Tony Evers appointed former state treasurer Sarah Godlewski to serve out La Follette’s term, which expires in 2027.
