A Milwaukee police officer is dead following an overnight confrontation with a robbery suspect. Police Chief Jeffery Norman says officer Peter Jerving was an outstanding member of the community who will be sorely missed.
Officer Jerving was in pursuit of 19-year-old Terrell Thompson early Tuesday morning when they got into a struggle. Police say during the fight, Thompson shot officer Jerving, who then returned fire and killed the suspect. Jerving was a life-long resident of Milwaukee and had been on the force for four years.
