New Youth Prison Moves Forward

The plan to build a new youth prison in Milwaukee took a big step forward yesterday.

Milwaukee’s Common Council yesterday approved the plan for a 42 million-dollars facility to be built on Milwaukee’s north side. The new prison is to be the replacement for the troubled Lincoln Hills youth prison. There continues to be some opposition from neighbors, but the vote all but seals the deal.

Milwaukee’s mayor must sign-off on the plan next, then there will be some steps at the state level. No one is saying just when construction could begin.
