Cheers To SWISSconsin! News | January 15, 2023 | 0 | by Morgan McCarthy The town of New Glarus is celebrating its Swiss heritage by performing an ancient ritual called Silvesterchlausen. The Swiss New Year’s celebration was performed Saturday afternoon in downtown New Glarus, and featured local citizens wearing tree costumes yodeling and playing cowbells. The president of the Swiss Center of North America said the goal of the event was to preserve the area’s Swiss cultural heritage and share their traditions with the people of Wisconsin. Event organizers said it was the first time Silvesterchlausen was held outside of Switzerland.
