A new report shows Wisconsin cigarette sales are less than half what they were 20 years ago.
The Wisconsin Policy Forum says 193-million packs of cigarettes were sold in Wisconsin last year, compared to just under 420-million in 2001. The Wisconsin Policy Forum points to several likely causes, including tax rate increases, public health messaging, substitute products, and policy changes. The Wisconsin Policy Forum says this has resulted in state tax revenue going down, but Wisconsin is also seeing lower disability and disease rates and lower health care costs.
