The Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 5346 Christopher Drive on Eau Claire’s West side.
It was reported that there was one occupant that was not able to evacuate the building. An Eau Claire County deputy arrived on scene first and was able to remove the victim from the front porch of the building. On fire crews arrival there was fire and smoke coming from an attached garage of a wood frame single-story duplex. Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire in the garage before it could spread.
Crews searched both sides of the duplex and no other victims were found and the fire had not extended to the living space. One resident received minor injuries attempting to extinguish the fire. She was treated at the scene but not transported. No other injuries were reported. The fire caused by careless use of smoking materials and damage is estimated to be $35,000. The fire department was assisted by the Eau Claire County Sheriffs Office, the Eau Claire Police Department and the Eau Claire County Communications Center.
