On Thin Ice

On Thin Ice

Lake Mendota is frozen over, but the DNR is urging patience for ice fishers. The state declared the lake frozen on Christmas Day.

The DNR says ice has to hold for 24 straight hours to be officially declared frozen. The DNR says you should wait til there’s about four inches of ice on the lake before heading out to fish or drive on the ice. Even with the past week’s bitter cold, that may take a few days.
