He took to Twitter Saturday to say he hopes that “everything that divides us fades away” this holiday weekend. Washington DC is one of many places experiencing cold weather nationwide, with a projected low of seven degrees on Saturday.
Bethlehem is marking Christmas.
Police put up barriers in Manger Square Saturday morning before groups from the Palestinian Scout Association kicked off the holiday celebration with a march. Located in the West Bank south of Jerusalem, Bethlehem is the biblical birthplace of Jesus and a major Christian pilgrimage site. Every year, the town hosts thousands of tourists who visit the area’s holy sites, including the Church of the Nativity.
Pope Francis is calling attention to conflicts around the world this Christmas.
The pontiff took to Twitter today to remind followers of the people in Ukraine who “are experiencing this Christmas in the dark and cold,” as well people “living through conflicts” in countries like Syria, Lebanon, and Myanmar, among others.
The Pope’s message follows Christmas Eve Mass at the Vatican attended by thousands of faithful.
