Tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of something just about all Americans do dozens if not hundreds of times a day. 

On December 3rd, 1992, British software programmer Neil Papworth sent the world’s first text message from a computer to his colleague Richard Jarvis.  It read, “Merry Christmas.”  Papworth was working as a developer and test engineer to create a Short Message Service, or SMS.  One year later, Finnish cellphone maker Nokia introduced an SMS feature with a distinctive beep to sign an incoming message.
