On November 8, 2022, residents in the City of Eau Claire voted to approve a referendum to increase the City’s annual tax levy to cover the cost of hiring fifteen additional public safety personnel, including six firefighter/paramedics, six police officers, two civilian community service officers, and one civilian law enforcement associate to support the 911 dispatch center. The measure passed on a 18,951 YES to 10,915 NO votes.
“On behalf of the City Council, we are sincerely appreciative of the community’s support of this referendum and their recognition of the challenges our public safety employees face. We are a safer, stronger and healthier community because of the work that they do and the dedication they bring forward serving our great city,” said City Council President Terry Weld.
