The passenger in the truck that killed three Girl Scouts in Lake Hallie is out of prison after just a year behind bars.
The state’s Department of Corrections yesterday informed a judge in Chippewa Falls that John Stender was released from prison. He was sentenced to three years plus three years of probation for not saying anything after Colten Treu ran down the scouts and one of their mom’s back in 2018. The father of one of the girls yesterday said Stender’s release is ‘upsetting.’ Treu is serving a 54 year sentence for the girls’ deaths.
