Two years ago today Wisconsin was waking-up to the aftermath of the first night of protests and riots in Kenosha following the shooting of Jacob Blake.
Blake was shot two years ago yesterday after fighting with police, trying to get into his ex’s SUV, and finally reaching for a knife. That shooting touched off three days of protests and riots that burned parts of Kenosha. The violence wouldn’t end until Kyle Rittenhouse shot and killed two people and wounded a third.
As we fast forward to today, a new lawsuit from Jacob Blake’s uncle says he was tortured after his arrest in Kenosha last year. Justin Blake filed the lawsuit yesterday.
He was arrested outside of the Kenosha County courthouse in April of 2021, and was put into a restraint chair in the jail. The sheriff’s office says it placed Blake in the chair because he refused to take off his belt and shoe laces, and could have been a danger to himself in jail.
Blake says he suffered ‘severe pain’ because of his arrest.
