Several deer at a farm in Waukesha County have been sacrificed after an outbreak of chronic wasting disease there.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture confirmed the euthanizing of 20-deer in the herd, eight of which tested positive for the debilitating disease. The Watertown Daily Times reported on Thursday that the farm operator will receive federal compensation for the loss. The report says the farm won’t be able to keep and raise deer for the next five years as part of preventive measures against the spread of the disease.
