MKE Leadership Static At Office Of Violence Prevention

There is more fallout from the change in Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention. Milwaukee’s Domestic Violence Commission chief, Jermaine Reed, yesterday resigned in protest of Alderman Ashanti Hamilton’s appointment to the OVP.

Reed said Hamilton should be disqualified ‘s a matter of principle’ because Hamilton pleaded guilty to a felony charge of child abuse in 2009 for beating his then six-year-old daughter with a plastic hanger. Hamilton avoided a felony history by entering into a deferred prosecution agreement. Reed’s resignation comes after Milwaukee’s mayor fired the former head of the Office of Violence Prevention last week.
