A small-town Texas police department won’t apologize for a selfie one of its officers snapped with Kyle Rittenhouse, the Illinois teenager who was acquitted of murder after shooting three people during a protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin two years ago.
The Police Department in Blinn, about 40 miles northeast of Austin, posted the photo on Facebook, writing “Make those stops, you never know who you might meet. Today it was Kyle Rittenhouse, welcome to Texas.” Hours later, after a wave of negative comments, the department added to the post, noting that Rittenhouse was found not guilty after killing two people and wounding a third during protests after a black man was shot by police. Rittenhouse said he shot in self-defense.
