The Senate is sending a veterans’ exposure bill to President Biden’s desk.
The PACT Act passed Tuesday evening with potential to expand benefits from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to almost four million veterans. The bill looks to add extra care for vets who suffered illnesses due to exposure to toxins, including from burn pits, during their military service. Biden is expected to sign the bill.
As it connects to our state, Wisconsin’s Republican U.S. Senator says he voted for the latest veterans’ healthcare plan despite his problems with the specifics. Johnson was one of several Republicans who opposed the plan because of extra spending. Ultimately, Johnson said, he voted for the plan after his objections were tossed aside because he wants to make it clear that he wants veterans to get the healthcare that they need.
