Dane Co. Sheriff Plans Jail Closures

Dane County’s sheriff says it’s just too dangerous to keep the entire county jail open going forward.

Sheriff Kalvin Barret yesterday said he is closing the east section of the seventh floor in the jail because of its age, and because he doesn’t have enough guards to safely work the area. The decision means 65 men and women will be sent to jails in Rock, Iowa and Oneida counties. The sheriff says the closure shows the need for a new jail in Madison and Dane County.
