There’s a request for Wisconsin lawmakers to clarify the state’s open records law.
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty yesterday sent a proposal to lawmakers that would update the rules for releasing government information following a recent state Supreme Court decision. That decision said governments don’t have to pay attorneys fees in open records cases until a judge rules against them. Advocates say that gives governments a window to drag-out open records cases and hide behind expensive trials, then hand over the information at the last minute. WILL wants the laws changed to allow for court costs as soon as the lawsuit is filed.
