WI Protests Peaceful, Reaction Continues

Wisconsin is among the states that continue to react after the Supreme Court decision heading into the weekend.

Madison may have had Wisconsin’s largest abortion protests. Thousands of people turned out Friday, then hundreds more turned out Saturday to speak about the end of Roe v. Wade. Wisconsin is one of about two dozen states where the end of Roe means the end of abortion.

Madison’s protesters want someone to do something to change the state’s laws and make abortion legal again.

Legally, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul says he won’t be pursuing enforcement of any abortion bans.  Kaul said the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade does not necessarily mean Wisconsin will revert back to a pre-Civil War state law banning abortions except if the mother’s life is in danger.

He said,  “It’s very unclear right now, what the law in Wisconsin even is,” given that in recent years, state lawmakers approved new laws regulating abortion.  Kaul says his office won’t be spending resources to enforce abortion bans.
