Students march down State Street in Madison demanding an end to Asian hate crimes.
The UW-Madison students staged the Stop Asian Hate march yesterday after several Asian students were attacked and beaten in three separate incidents the past two weeks. Police investigators don’t believe the attacks were only racially motivated but the student protesters claim the attacks targeted Asians.
The students have launched a petition on Change-dot-Org calling for UW officials to protect Asian students and to act accordingly to put a stop to the hate crimes.
In terms of other action, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Student Council is convening an emergency session Monday.
The Associated Students of Madison are calling the meeting to address the issue of anti-Asian hate crimes after an Asian PhD student was attacked and beaten by several people near campus this past Tuesday night. The Zoom meeting happens at 7:00-p.m.
