On This Day…

On This Day…

Hello.

Welcome to your weekend and thank you making us part of it.

We’re glad you are here!

Each Saturday morning we like to shift to a slightly lighter approach and begin the day with a “scroll down memory lane.” It’s a simple way to look back at events that have happened on this day in the pages of history before we head out into a new day.

So, grab your favorite sippin’ drink and let’s scroll!

Today is Saturday, June 4th, the 155th day of the year.  There are 210 days until the end of the year.

On this day:

In 1892, the Sierra Club was incorporated in San Francisco.

In 1896, Henry Ford took a test drive in his “Quadricycle,” his first automobile design.

In 1924, an eternal light was dedicated at New York’s Madison Square Garden in honor of the soldiers who died in World War One.

In 1929, George Eastman demonstrated the first Technicolor movie in New York.

In 1937, one of the first grocery store shopping carts was introduced.  Sylvan Goldman, the owner of the Piggly Wiggly supermarket chain in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is credited with its invention.

In 1986, Jonathan Pollard, a former Navy Intelligence analyst, pled guilty to spying for Israel.

In 1990, Doctor Jack Kevorkian helped an Oregon woman commit suicide, starting the debate over a patient’s right to die.

In 1998, Americans aboard Space Shuttle Discovery docked with Space Station Mir to pick up Andrew Thomas, who’d spent four months in orbit.

In 1998, Terry Nichols received a life sentence for his role in the Oklahoma City bombing.

In 1999, on the tenth anniversary of China’s crackdown on the Tiananmen Square protests, tens of thousands of people in Hong Kong held a candlelight vigil.

In 2001, Nepal’s King Dipendra died, three days after he reportedly shot and killed most members of the royal family before turning the gun on himself.  He was succeeded by his uncle, Prince Gyanendra.

In 2007, Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson was indicted on 16 counts related to bribery, fraud and conspiracy.  Prosecutors say Jefferson used his position and influence to promote the sale of telecommunications equipment to a Nigerian company in return for stock and cash payments.

In 2018,  The San Francisco 49ers mourned the loss of one of their all-time greats, Dwight Clark.  His wife Kelly posted on Clark’s Twitter account that he died following a battle with ALS.  He was 61.

And that brings us here to this day.
So, whatever plans you have for your own personal 6.4.2022 we hope you find moments along the way to record in your own personal history books.

Thanks for stopping by!
