Distress Calls Lead Officer to Bridge

A call into ECPD last night resulted in someone being taken to a facility for help. Below is the information from ECPD:

Last night, dispatch received a 911 call from a person asking for help, providing little information, and hanging up.

Dispatch worked on gathering additional information and trying to get a location of where the call was coming from. Eau Claire Police Officer Derek Jack located the distressed person on a bridge who was quickly climbing over the other side of the railing. Officer Jack was worried the person was going to jump off of the bridge and hurt themselves. Officer Jack was able to grab ahold of the person, assisting them back over the railing and onto the sidewalk. The officer safely secured the person, who made comments about how they had nothing to live for and needed help.

Officer Jack calmly talked with the person, who he transported to the hospital where they were held on an emergency detention.

Great teamwork by our dispatch and officers for locating, helping, and potentially saving this person’s life! We are also proud of this person for reaching out for help.
