Eau Claire Fire Department crews responded to Butchers Block BBQ restaurant for a reported structure fire overnight. Engine 9 was the first fire unit on scene and reported heavy smoke showing from the venting system and near the kitchen area of the building.
As additional crews arrived, forcible entry was performed and fire was found in the kitchen with smoke throughout the building. Crews worked quickly to extinguish and contain the fire, preventing the fire from extending to the remainder of the building. The structure was searched and ventilated while fire crews continued to assure that fire had not extended beyond the kitchen area.
A neighboring motel was temporarily evacuated with the help of the Eau Claire Police Department, as a precaution, due to it’s close proximity to the restaurant. The occupants of the motel were able to return a short time later.
Fire Department crews and a Fire Investigator remain on scene at the time of this report and no injuries have been reported.
