The Wisconsin Supreme Court will likely decide whether the legislature overstepped its bounds with a 2018 law that requires the attorney general to get permission before settling or ending a lawsuit.
A judge in Dane County last week said lawmakers did go too far, but put a hold on that order until an appeal can be filed. The law was passed just before Governor Evers took power in 2019, and placed restrictions on how the attorney general can handle some cases. Democrats have complained the law gives Republican lawmakers too much power, but Republicans say they are simply taking some power back from the executive branch.
There’s no word when the case could end-up with the high court.
