Thanks to a grant from the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation, Northwoods Elementary School physical education teacher Erin Johnson has coordinated a visit to Eau Claire from Damian Buchman, founder of The Ability Center, the Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association and RampUpMKE.
Buchman was diagnosed with osteosarcoma three days before his 13th birthday and has undergone 22 major knee surgeries with a variety of replacement and revisions. Buchman is also an adaptive athlete for the Wisconsin Thunder wheelchair basketball team and a father of three adopted boys.
• Thursday, May 5, he will visit freshman PE classes at North High School
from 6:30 am-3:30 pmand play wheelchair sports with North students. He
will also be the special guest at Playground Night at Northwoods
Elementary School from 5:30-7 pm.
• Friday, May 6, he will speak to Dr. Marquell Johnson’s Rehabilitation Science class at the McPhee building at UW-Eau Claire from 10 am-11 am and will speak at the Northwoods Elementary all-school assembly from 2:15-3:15 pm.
