A reconstruction project has begun on the Chippewa River trail along 1st Avenue, between the Phoenix Park Bridge and the Grand Avenue Plaza. Those who use the trail for recreation or as part of their commute are asked to stay off this trail segment and use caution in the area, as large construction equipment will be in use.
The reconstruction will include the removal of the existing asphalt trail, which will be replaced with a 10’ wide concrete trail. LED lighting will also be installed. These trail improvements are made possible through a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Trail Improvement Grant. The project is anticipated to be completed and the trail reopened to the public at the end of May, depending on the weather.
