State Superintendent Comments On LGBTQ Issues In WI

Wisconsin’s state superintendent of schools is stepping into the debate over lessons on race and LGBTQ issues.

Superintendent Jill Underly yesterday released an op-ed that defended school policies on gender and race as creating safe spaces and saving lives. Undelry said adults, particularly policymakers, cannot ‘sit by’ and allow harassment of students because of their ‘gender, immigration status, race, sexuality or gender identity.’

Underly didn’t point to any specific policies, but her op-ed comes just days after Governor Evers vetoed the Parents Bill of Rights that would have given parents more say about what’s taught in their kids’ schools.
