Wisconsin’s Republican U.S. Senator wants a federal study on low bail following the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack.
Senator Ron Johnson yesterday introduced legislation that would have the Justice Department look into how states are setting bails or keeping suspects in jail. Republican Congressman Scott Fitzgerald is a co-sponsor. Johnson says the low bail that allowed the suspect in the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack to remain on the street is not a uniquely Wisconsin problem. Fitzgerald says people need to know what is going on with the bail system across the country, particularly when it comes to how often violent criminals are released back on to the streets.
