A Grafton dentist could be headed to prison for as many as 20 years as part of a broken-tooth scam.
A jury last week found dentist Scott Charmoli guilty of fraud. Prosecutors say he would scam people into thinking they needed a crown by showing them an x-ray, then by intentionally breaking their teeth. He would then bill insurance. He was convicted on eight counts, but is facing lawsuits from over 100 former patients.
Prosecutors say his scam was discovered when the new owners of his dental practice noticed that he was performing five-times the normal number of crown procedures.
