Coronavirus Cases, Hospitalizations Continue to Fall

Eau Claire’s public health boss says at-home testing has nothing to do with the drop in coronavirus cases. 

Audrey Boerner with the Eau Claire City-County Health Department said the drop in positive cases is part of an international trend with the omicron variant.  She says the arrival of at-home tests did not lead to a drop in reported cases.  Wisconsin saw a massive spike in coronavirus cases that peaked last month, and has since seen its coronavirus numbers fall back to where they were last summer.

There are fewer than 800 people in the hospital with the coronavirus in Wisconsin. 

The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said the hospitalization count is now at 770 people.  That includes 158 people in the ICU. Just last month there were over 22-hundred people hospitalized with the virus in the state.
