The Eau Claire City Council met on February 8, 2022, to establish the process and prepare for the interviews of Stephanie Hirsch and David Solberg, the two finalists for the position of City Manager.
The candidates are scheduled to interview with City Council, City staff, and community panels over two days on February 22 and 23. An opportunity for the community to meet with each candidate in a less
formal setting at Fire Station #2 is also planned for February 22. More information on this meet and
greet with the candidates will be forthcoming. City Council is then anticipated to convene for a closed
session deliberation and possible hiring decision on February 25. Announcement of the next City
Manager would follow a discussion with the candidate selected and the adoption by City Council of an
employment contract at a still to be determined City Council meeting date.
Stephanie Hirsch and David Solberg are finalists for the position following a nationwide candidate
search led by executive search consultant Polihire. There were 37 applicants for the position, five were
invited by City Council to interview, and Ms. Hirsch and Mr. Solberg accepted that invitation and are
the final candidates selected to continue in the search process. Ms. Hirsch is currently the Operations
Administrator for Eau Claire County Department of Human Services. Mr. Solberg is the Interim City
Manager and City Engineer for the City of Eau Claire. Additional professional biographical information
was provided in an earlier press release and is available upon request through the City’s Human
Resources Department.
City Council President Terry Weld states: “We are eager for Council and the community to meet with
the final candidates and to make the important selection of who will serve our City as the next City
Manager.”
The City Council remains committed to working alongside City staff, the residents of Eau Claire, and
our community partners in the search and selection of Eau Claire’s next City Manager. The City
