“So many amazing things have happened here at the center in the last 16 years,” Pica Anderson said, “it
just seemed like the right time to pass on the opportunity to someone else to lead this wonderful
facility.”

“Mary has given so much to the Senior Center over the past 16 years,” Deignan said. “Her heart and soul
were where she operated from, and anyone who worked with Mary would agree she became the face
and voice of the L.E. Phillips Senior Center and its users. She represented the senior center with passion
and treated the facility as if it was her own.”

Pica Anderson began at the center on Feb. 27, 2006, Deignan said, and under her leadership the center
transitioned its programming to focus on the physical, mental and emotional health of its members. She
also was highly successful in fund raising by building strong community relationships, he said.
