Republican lawmakers in the state want to use some coronavirus relief money to hire more cops.
A number of lawmakers yesterday unveiled a plan to spend 25 million-dollars in American Rescue Plan money to pay newly hired officers five thousand-dollars each. Cops could get an additional one thousand-dollars per-year-of-service if they move to Wisconsin from out of state. State Rep. Jim Steineke says Wisconsin has a police officer shortage. He expects lawmakers to agree to the plan but isn’t sure the Governor Evers will go-along.
