Wisconsin’s latest coronavirus snapshot shows just how quickly case numbers are growing.
The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported over eight thousand new cases. Two weeks ago that number was five thousand cases in one day. Nearly all of the cases are of the omicron variant. DHS says the positive-by-test number is about 24 percent. DHS says that’s a better measurement than the seven-day positivity rate because so many people are being tested more than once. CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM WI DHS.
What does that look like as we reference trends? One of Wisconsin’s congressmen says the days of spiking coronavirus numbers could end as quickly as they began.
Western Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind yesterday said he was briefed by the CDC who said the omicron variant may begin to fade next month. Kind said omicron cases in South Africa and the United Kingdom followed a similar pattern of large spike, then rapid decline. Kind says everyone has their fingers crossed that that’s what happens here as well.
