If they haven’t already done so, officials with several communities in Central Wisconsin are preparing to declare a snow emergency.
A winter storm watch is in effect from tomorrow afternoon until Saturday morning for much of the central state. Cities like Plover and Merrill have already declared their emergency. Plover’s snow emergency goes into effect at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon until 5 p.m. Saturday and Merrill has a snow emergency beginning tomorrow at 6 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The wintry weather is making for slick conditions on roadways.
Transportation officials are asking drivers to watch out for emergency and police vehicles, which may be responding to a crash or an incident on the roads. There were two crashes involving State Patrol cruisers this week alone. One driver smashed into the back of a cruiser in icy conditions on Interstate 41 in Winnebago County yesterday while Monday a state trooper cruiser was side-swiped by a tractor-trailer.
