There’s a warning about gift cards during this holiday season.
The state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says people need to be careful both buying and using gift cards. The advice for buying gift cards is to make sure they are not already used, and to make sure you read the fine print. As far as using gift cards, DATCP says anyone who is demanding payment with a gift card is likely a scammer. The state says you should hang-up on anyone who calls-up and requests that you buy a gift card to pay for purchases or fines you don’t remember making or getting.
