Reports Suggests “Refocus” for Madison

A new report says Madison Police were unprepared for the anger and violence of last summer’s protests.

The Quattrone Report says Madison’s usual strategy of allowing protesters room to protest failed last May because the groups involved in those protests were far angrier, and far more violent than in years past. The report says protesters didn’t communicate with Madison Police, and responded to police action with even more violence. Last year’s protests saw State Street vandalized, saw fire started, and saw a large crowd tear down statues at the Wisconsin Capitol.

The Quattrone Report suggests Madison Police ‘refocus’ future protest strategies on de-escalation, and only use things like tear-gas when they cannot peacefully redirect protesters.
