A Chippewa Valley lawmaker is using the case of Altoona’s former superintendent to press for new name change laws.
State Representative Jesse James says kids shouldn’t be punished for the sins of their parents. James is pressing lawmakers to allow just one parent to sign for a child’s name change. James says the case of former Altoona Superintendent Daniel Peggs is a prime example. Peggs’ kids’ mother wants to change their name, but state law gives Peggs some say in the matter even though he’s in prison on child pornography charges. James says the proposal will likely get a hearing in December.
