Eau Claire County is looking at nearly twice the debt load as other counties in Wisconsin.
County Administrator Kathryn Schauf on Tuesday said the county is on track to spend about a third of its tax levy on debt alone next year. That works-out to nearly 840 dollars of debt per-person. Wisconsin’s statewide average is almost 450 dollars per-person. But debt isn’t the only budget pressure for Eau Claire County. Schauf says the decision to give all county employees a two-and-a-half-percent raise in the new county budget is also straining the county’s finances.
