Advocates in Milwaukee say it’s up to people in the neighborhoods to help stop violence in the city.
A number of advocates gathered at Sherman Park yesterday to say someone has to do something to stop the wave of shootings and murders in Milwaukee. It all comes after an 11-year-old girl died in a drive-by shooting last Saturday. Reggie Moore, the director of violence prevention policy at the Medical College of Wisconsin, says it’s ‘on us’ to help stop the violence. Elected leaders say they need more money for more programs in Milwaukee.

Rebecca Kleesich yesterday said Mayor Tom Barrett hasn’t done enough to stop what she calls ‘out of control crime’ in Milwaukee. Kleefisch’s call comes just days after an 11-year-old girl died in a drive-by shooting in the city. Mayor Barrett blamed Republican lawmakers for the spike in crime in Milwaukee. Kleefisch says Milwaukee needs new leadership before the crime in Milwaukee spills out into the rest of the state.
