Responders Recover Body From Mississippi River

On September 29, 2021 at approximately 6:30 P.M. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a report of a capsized boat on the Backwaters of the Mississippi River near the Belvidere Landing, which is located on County Rd. 00, North of Buffalo City, Wisconsin.

It was determined that the owner of the boat was missing and a search of the area began. Search and rescue from Tri-Community Fire Dept., surrounding Fire Departments and Search and Rescue units of the DNR and Winona Dive and Rescue were also initially called in from surrounding areas were activated. Scenic Valley Ambulance and Western Buffalo County Ambulance were on standby at the scene. Search of water and shore continued into the evening and following two days. Mutual aid assistance was called for from other agencies in the region.

On October 1st at approximately 11:20 a.m. a Dive and Rescue team from Fort McCoy Fire Department located the individual with underwater equipment from their unit. The individual was pronounced deceased by the Buffalo County Coroner’s Office.
