It could soon be a felony to abuse animals in Wisconsin.
The state Senate passed a plan yesterday that increases the penalties and broadens the definition of animal abuse. What is now a misdemeanor abuse charge would be changed to a felony. And, what is currently a felony would be bumped-up to include a six-year prison sentence. Animal rescuers say the update will go a long way to protecting animals and punishing abusers in the state. The plan next heads to the state Assembly.
