Leaders in La Crosse County are officially on the record as welcoming Afghan refugees to the area.
County Board Chairwoman Monica Kruse helped push through a welcoming resolution last week. She acknowledged that there are some people in La Crosse who are wary about the refugees currently staying at Fort McCoy, but she doesn’t want to encourage fear or discrimination. It’s unclear just how many of the 13-thousand refugees at the fort will stay in Wisconsin, or where they will go once they are allowed to leave.
