A suburban Milwaukee state Senator wants to change the Wisconsin Constitution to give lawmakers more say over how federal dollars are spent in the state.
Republican Dale Kooyenga is ready to introduce a constitutional amendment to extend the legislature’s spending power to include federal money sent to the state as well. He says lawmakers already decide how state money is spent, and they should decide how billions in federal money is spent as well. Kooyenga hopes to approve the amendment before January, then again immediately next year. He says that would put the question to voters next spring and give lawmakers some say over the billions in stimulus money coming into the state.
