Clark County is mourning the loss of one of their own.
It was on August 8th when two Clark County Highway Workers were sent to a tree that was across a rural two-lane County Highway. They arrived at the scene at about 1:00 AM and started to remove the tree. At about 1:15 AM, one of the workers called 911 and said that a vehicle struck them.
When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered that a vehicle had struck the two workers and tree. The caller, David Murphy, was transported to the hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. Russell Opelt died at the scene of the crash.
The 28 yr old operator of the vehicle was arrested for Causing Injury and Homicide by Intoxicated use of a vehicle and is currently in the Clark County Jail. Speed and vehicle operator impairment appear to be factors in the accident.
